Mac OSX comes with git pre-installed. You can find the installation here: /usr/bin.
To check its version, type the following:
$ git --version
To upgrade to the latest version of git, do the following:
- Download and install latest git from http://git-scm.com. This will install it in /usr/local/git folder. Make sure it did that.
- Open terminal and run the following
$ vi ~/.bash_profile
- Go to insert mode (press "i" on your keyboard)
- Paste the following
- If there already stuff in .bash_profile file, just append "/usr/local/git/bin" appropriately. For example, in my case, the android sdk path was already set in it. So it was appended at the end as shown below:
- Save the file.
- Quit terminal
- Reopen terminal
- Type the following:
$ git --version
It should show the version you installed.
I am on a break for couple of weeks. I will start updating the blog very soon.

It’s the middle of summer, but for those of us who long for the return of cold winter weather and warm cups of cocoa, throw on your favorite poncho and check out the weather in Google Earth 5.2. The latest version projects images of rain and snow over the areas with those weather patterns as it’s actually happening! First enable the clouds layer, then zoom in to a particular location where it might be raining or snowing. I’m willing to bet London is a likely spot, even these days, or the Lone Star state (pictured below) which is in the midst of tropical storm season. Currently, our precipitation data cover some areas in North America and Europe; you can see if it’s available in certain places by enabling the radar layer.
